First Grade Art

First Grade Art Expectations

Think like an ARTIST!
Monroeville Elementary Artists are expected to develop Artistic Behaviors by learning, exploring, experiencing and reflecting about art.

1. Artists will reach the Ohio Visual Art Standards Progress Points by developing the following skills:

   A. Recognize that people from various times and cultures create works of art to be looked at, valued and enjoyed.

   B. Explore a range of art concepts and artworks and construct meaning about the works.

   C. Connect making art with individual choice and understanding personal cultural identity.

   D. Produce artworks that express and represent their experiences, imagination and ideas using a range of media including new technologies.

   E. Form and express opinions about artworks and apply critical and creative thinking skills to assess and refine their artworks.

2. Artists will grow and achieve by developing the following Ohio Visual Art Standards Enduring Understandings:
 
   A. Personal Choice and Vision: Students construct and solve problems of personal relevance and interest when expressing themselves through visual art.

   B. Critical and Creative Thinking: Students combine and apply artistic and reasoning skills to imagine, create, realize and refine artworks in conventional and innovative ways.

   C. Authentic Application and Collaboration: Students work individually and in groups to focus ideas and create artworks that address genuine local and global community needs.

   D. Literacy: As consumers, critics and creators, students evaluate and understand artworks and other texts produced in the media forms of the day.

  4 PE: I can point out and talk about, using art words, the different elements and principles of art that I see.

  5 PE: I can point out and talk about what an artist does and find examples of art in my school or community.

Responding / Reflecting (RE): Make connections, reconsider, question, self-assess

1 RE: I can find good things about my art and also, how my art can improve.

2 RE: I can fix or redo my art to make it better.

3 RE: I can talk about how I made my art, with my art peers.

4 RE: I can talk about my interests and experiences and how I used them in my art.

5 RE: I can talk about the symbols and images I see in artwork.

6 RE: I can find an art object & talk about its purpose.

7 RE: I can describe how the elements & principles of art help an artwork say something.

8 RE: I can share what I think and feel about an artwork and I can be respectful of what other’s think and feel.
